Café Imperial

Michal Pšenička
Café Imperial is one of Prague's icons, which has preserved the unique atmosphere of the early 20th century for more than a century. The Art Nouveau café was opened in 1914 and, thanks to its decoration, hospitality and cuisine, is one of the most famous establishments in the city. Over the years, it has been visited by writer Franz Kafka, composer Leoš Janáček and other important personalities.
Today, Café Imperial, under the management of Zdeněk Pohlreich and co-owners including Lukáš Koubek, continues its glory days during the First Republic. The interior is decorated with original ceramic decorations and mosaic ceilings, which, together with large windows overlooking the lively streets of Prague, create an atmosphere of First Republic nobility.
The café is open daily, including holidays, and guests come here not only for lunch or dinner, but also for breakfast served buffet-style or à la carte from seven in the morning.
The kitchen is headed by chef Michal Pšenička, who specializes in modern Czech gastronomy. Its renowned specialties include kulajda, veal cheeks in red wine, lamb knuckle in marjoram or Imperial date cake. The menu is complemented by international dishes, always prepared from the highest quality ingredients.
The lunch menu expands the permanent menu, evenings are festive dishes and there is never a sweet spot at the end. Café Imperial thus combines history, top cuisine and an unmistakable genius loci. As Lukáš Koubek says: “Not visiting Café Imperial during your stay in Prague is like not seeing Hradčany.”
