Monastiq

Michal Horváth

Monastiq Restaurant is located in the Mandarin Oriental, Prague hotel, which is located in the grounds of a former Dominican monastery in Malá Strana – one of the most picturesque parts of historic Prague. The unique setting combines monastery architecture with noble design and creates an atmosphere that combines peace, beauty and top-notch gastronomy.
The interior of the restaurant sensitively respects the historical character of the place. The Renaissance wing with original vaults, which once served as the kitchen of burgher houses, today offers an elegant space with discreet lighting and a selection of works of art referring to significant figures of Czech history. In the warm months, guests can enjoy sitting on the terrace in the courtyard of the former monastery.
The cuisine of the Monastiq restaurant is based on Czech tradition, which it presents in a modern, fresh and innovative concept. The dishes surprise with unusual combinations and engage all the senses. Here, guests discover the rich history of Czech gastronomy, shaped by domestic and foreign influences. The menu changes regularly according to the season – in the summer, lighter, fresher flavours prevail, while in the winter, heartier and warmer dishes are offered.
Signature dishes include cucumber gazpacho with coconut-avocado sorbet, pike perch with red crayfish and salmon caviar, or veal schnitzel according to a 19th-century recipe. Traditional zemlbába is served in a creative version at Monastiq that pays homage to the classics, but also adds a new dimension to it.
Chef Michal Horváth is behind the kitchen, whose journey into cooking began in childhood. He was inspired primarily by his grandfather and grandmother, who passed on his love of food. He trained in Karlovy Vary and gained his first professional experience at the Grandhotel Pupp. This was followed by work at the Four Seasons Hotel in Prague and internships abroad in Scotland, Sweden and England. He then worked in London, including at the Oblix restaurant in the Shard skyscraper and the iconic Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. Since 2018, he has been associated with the Mandarin Oriental, Prague, where he has gradually helped to build a style that emphasizes authenticity, creativity and the joy of cooking. Michal Horváth says that his greatest motivation is the positive feedback from guests and the opportunity to create dishes that leave a mark. He brings to his kitchen not only experience from abroad, but also an honest approach to craft, respect for ingredients and a desire to constantly move forward. For Monastiq visitors, each dish is not only a culinary experience, but also a story connecting tradition with modern creativity.
