Lumír Toušek
For over a hundred years, the Municipal House has been one of the most important public buildings in Prague. Leading Czech artists of several generations contributed to its decoration – Karel Špillar, Alfons Mucha, Max Švabinský, Jan Preisler and František Ženíšek. The restaurant itself was opened in 1912 and is still one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau restaurants in Europe. Its interior with stained glass windows, rich stucco decoration and massive chandeliers has a noble and authentic feel, and guests can enjoy the atmosphere of the early 20th century.
The Municipal House is home to several establishments – a café, a beer hall and Tretter’s American Bar, which is among the ten oldest bars in Europe. Each of the establishments has its own unique concept, but together they form a unique gastronomic whole.
The Municipal House restaurant focuses on international cuisine and modern Czech gastronomy, enriched with experience and ingredients from all over the world. The menu changes regularly according to the season and the emphasis is on freshness and local products. Guests appreciate not only the beautiful surroundings, but also the professional and friendly service.
Chef Lumír Toušek is behind the kitchen, who grew up in a family of chefs and gastronomy was a natural choice for him. He trained in Mariánské Lázně, then worked in Germany and Ireland, where he gained experience in Michelin restaurants. He worked under the guidance of chef Seamus Commons and as chef he headed the Michelin restaurant L’Ecrivain in Dublin.
Today, Lumír Toušek brings his experience to Prague’s Art Nouveau pearl and focuses on quality, seasonality and pure flavors. His favorite ingredients are fish and game, which he regularly includes on the menu. “It is an honor for me to work in one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau restaurants in Europe,” he says. In the future, he would like to fulfill his dream and open his own restaurant.
